Dr Stevienna de Saille is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Sheffield's School of Sociological Studies, Politics and International Relations. She holds a PhD from the University of Leeds and has held postdoctoral roles investigating public engagement with science and technology. Her research focuses on the intersection of science and technology studies, social movements, and heterodox economics, emphasizing intersectional analysis. Current projects include leading the 'Human Futures' theme in iHuman, developing the 'Robots in a Human Future' research programme, and exploring responsible innovation in stagnation economies via the Fourth Quadrant Research Network.
Key grants include leadership of the UKRI-TAS 'Mapping Trustworthy Systems for RAS in Social Care' (2023-24) and a Wellcome Trust project on biomedical system diversity with Prof. James Wilsdon. She is PI on multiple interdisciplinary projects addressing autonomous systems and robotics ethics. Her work employs innovative methods like LEGO® Serious Play® for stakeholder engagement in RRI processes.
Research interests span reproductive technologies, governance of emergent tech, and inclusive robotics design. She co-authored Responsibility Beyond Growth (2020) and Knowledge as Resistance (2017). Awards include the 2024-25 Reform Scholar title for policy work on automation in social care.
