Stevie Cisneros Hanley is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), where they teach courses such as Queer Color and Feminist and Queer Clay Strategies. Their work bridges art, curation, and education, focusing on post-colonial futures, queer identity, and marginalized voices. Hanley holds an MFA in Painting and Drawing from SAIC (2014) and a BA in Psychology and Fine Art from UC Berkeley (2006).
Research interests include ancestral silences, multicultural identity, and the intersections of art with social justice. Hanley has exhibited globally, including solo shows at the International Museum of Surgical Science and group exhibitions in Berlin, Istanbul, and Los Angeles. They are co-chair of the 2023 Terrain Biennial and a contributing writer for The New Art Examiner.
Notable awards include residencies at MASS MoCA (2023), Poor Farm (2023), and TAKT in Berlin (2006–2009). Their curatorial work includes founding the Siblings Collective and serving as curatorial assistant at Berlin's Schwules Museum.
Hanley’s teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary practices and community-driven art, as seen in their Course Enrichment Grant-funded collaborations with Indigenous cultural preservationists. They currently exhibit in NO BIOS at Visual AIDS, New York City.
