Dr. Steven M. Silverstein is a Professor of Psychiatry, Neuroscience, and Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He holds the George L. Engel Professorship in Biopsychosocial Medicine and serves as Associate Chair for Research in Psychiatry and Director of the Center for Retina and Brain. With over 270 publications, his research focuses on schizophrenia, visual perception deficits, retinal biomarkers, and mental health rehabilitation. He has led NIH-funded grants and received awards such as the Armin Loeb Award and Alexander Gralnick Prize.
Education: PhD in Clinical Psychology from SUNY Buffalo (1989), BA from Brandeis University (1984). Postdoctoral training at Cornell Medical College.
Research Interests: Schizophrenia pathophysiology, visual and cognitive impairments, retinal biomarkers for brain disorders, and mental health interventions for vision loss. His work bridges clinical psychiatry with neuroscience, emphasizing translational research.
