Shaun M. Eack is the James and Noel Browne Endowed Chair and Professor of Social Work and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh, serving as Associate Dean for Research. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. His research focuses on psychosocial treatments for schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorder, biopsychosocial factors influencing recovery, and social work education in mental health care.
Dr. Eack leads major NIH-funded grants, including studies on Cognitive Enhancement Therapy (CET) for autism and schizophrenia. His work emphasizes neuroimaging, cognitive rehabilitation, and long-term treatment outcomes. He is also a Board Member of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (AASWSW).
Recent publications explore CET’s impact on brain connectivity, emotion regulation, and substance use in schizophrenia. His research integrates clinical trials, neurobiology, and social work practice to improve care for severe mental illnesses.
Key grants include R01 MH106450 (Cognitive Enhancement Therapy for Autism), R21 MH104487 (Long-term Effects of Early CET in Schizophrenia), and R01 MH-92440 (Brain Imaging and Early Schizophrenia). These projects examine treatment efficacy, neural mechanisms, and moderators of response in mental health interventions.
