Steven London is a Professor and Chair of Urban Studies at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, affiliated with Brooklyn College, CUNY since 1986. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from New York University and has extensive experience in academic unionism, serving in leadership roles within the Professional Staff Congress (PSC) and New York State United Teachers (NYSUT). His research focuses on labor politics, public policy, and New York City/State politics, with notable publications on worker education and power dynamics.
Education: B.A. in Political Science from Rutgers College; M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from New York University.
Research Interests: London’s work examines labor movements, class/race/gender intersections, and urban political structures. He has contributed to seminal texts like People, Power and Politics and edited volumes on worker re-education. His recent advocacy includes testimony on budget proposals affecting CUNY and New York City educational policies.
