Dr. Steven Li is a Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw Research Fellow at the University of Manchester’s High Voltage Group. His expertise spans high voltage engineering, power system optimization, electromagnetic emissions, and AI integration in energy systems. He holds a PhD from the University of Manchester (2013), with prior degrees from the University of Birmingham and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Dr. Li has led over 20 industry-academic projects, contributing to CIGRE working groups and China Electrotechnical Society. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

Dr. Li focuses on advancing ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission systems, dielectric material reliability, and AI-driven solutions for net-zero power grids. His work explores electromagnetic environmental impacts of overhead lines and integrates machine learning for predictive maintenance and system optimization. Recent studies include aging characterization of insulation materials and coating effects on corona discharge noise.
Publications:
His recent work (2024) addresses insulation degradation mechanisms, coating material performance, and high-voltage interface breakdown. Earlier contributions (2019–2005) explored molecular dynamics simulations of water and ionic liquids, advancing multipolar electrostatic models for complex systems.
