Steven J. Brady is an Associate Professor of History and International Relations at George Washington University, serving as a full-time faculty member. His research focuses on diplomatic history, with special emphasis on German-American relations, early U.S. foreign policy, the Eisenhower administration, and paradiplomacy. He also teaches military history, U.S. peace movements, and the presidency.
Dr. Brady’s publications include Eisenhower and Adenauer: Alliance Maintenance under Pressure (Lexington/Harvard Cold War Studies), analyzing Cold War-era German-American relations, and Chained to History: Slavery and United States Foreign Relations to 1865 (Cornell, 2022), which explores slavery’s role in early U.S. diplomacy. Current projects include studies on American Catholics and the Vietnam War, and the foreign relations of U.S. governors.
His research bridges diplomatic history with thematic inquiries into presidential leadership, transatlantic alliances, and the intersection of domestic and international policy. While no advising or grants data is provided here, his work underscores interdisciplinary approaches to understanding U.S. foreign policy history.
