Steven Graver serves as Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Columbus State University, where he has maintained faculty status since Fall 1996 following his appointment as Instructor. With over 35 years of professional experience as a freelance costume designer and technician, his career spans Broadway productions including Beauty and the Beast, Sunset Blvd., and Cats, alongside film work on Hook and Bullets Over Broadway.
His educational foundation includes a BA in Theatre from Columbus College (1984) and an MFA in Costume Design from the University of Tennessee. Professor Graver has designed costumes for more than 90 main stage productions at CSU while also directing and performing, establishing him as the department's longest-tenured member having graduated from the institution himself.
His creative research focuses on three core areas:
- Costume Design
- Costume Construction
- Stage Makeup
Through extensive workshop instruction at GTC, Georgia Thespian Conference, and Southeastern Theatre Conference, he has disseminated expertise in theatrical costuming and makeup techniques while maintaining active engagement with professional theatre networks including Texas Shakespeare Festival where he completed 11 seasons.
