Ruth Dentel is an Associate Professor of Theatre at Belhaven University, where she has taught since 2020. She serves as the faculty costume designer and shop manager, instructing courses in design, costume construction, and makeup. Dentel holds a B.A. from Liberty University and an M.F.A. from the University of Virginia.
Her research focuses on costume design methodologies, historical costume analysis with emphasis on traditional ethnic clothing, and technical theatre production. She possesses specialized skills in pattern creation, soft sculpture, millinery, and wardrobe management.

- Silver Scissors Award for outstanding costume design (Houston Museum of Fine Arts, 1999)
- Three nominations for the American College Theatre Festival during graduate studies
Dentel brings extensive industry experience, including costume design for Houston-area productions, technical work for Shakespeare festivals and opera companies, three years with the Phantom of the Opera Broadway tour, and several years at Houston Ballet. Outside academia, she documents global cultural traditions through travel and authored Europe In America, exploring U.S. towns with European heritage.
