Steven Geofrey is an Associate Teaching Professor and Coordinator of Creative Coding in the Department of Art + Design at Northeastern University. They are a research-practitioner in data, design, and computation, with interdisciplinary expertise spanning the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Steven also serves as a Senior Research Scientist at Project Information Literacy and a Research Associate with Partnering Lab.

Steven’s research focuses on data visualization, information design, and computational methods. Their work intersects with Japanese studies, media literacy, biophysics, and biochemistry, often addressing how data representations inform meaning-making in complex systems like climate change responses and legal design.
Steven’s publications highlight interdisciplinary applications of data visualization in media ecosystems, digital humanities, and legal systems, with notable works in 2024 on climate communication and ethical technology design. They have received prestigious awards including the Information is Beautiful Silver Award, Fulbright Fellowship, and Gruber Science Fellowship.
