Steven Fazzari is the Bert A. and Jeanette L. Lynch Distinguished Professor of Economics and Professor of Sociology at Washington University in St. Louis. His primary affiliation is with the Department of Economics, and he holds a joint appointment in Sociology. He has served in significant administrative roles, including chair of the Economics Department (1999–2005), inaugural chair of the Sociology Department (2014–2019), and associate director/director of the Weidenbaum Center on the Economy, Government, and Public Policy.
Research Interests: Fazzari’s work focuses on the intersection of macroeconomics and finance. Key areas include:
- Financial determinants of business investment and R&D spending
- Foundations of Keynesian and Post-Keynesian macroeconomic theory
- Analysis of the Great Recession
- Impact of income inequality on economic stability
- Financial instability and policy responses
Teaching and Leadership: He teaches macroeconomics at all levels and has received numerous teaching awards, including the Missouri Governor’s Award and Washington University’s Distinguished Faculty Award. His leadership roles also involve university committees and academic planning.
