Mark Setterfield is the Leo Model Professor of Economics at The New School for Social Research and a faculty member at Eugene Lang College. He holds affiliations with institutions such as the Cambridge Centre for Economic and Public Policy (UK), Université Sorbonne Paris Nord (France), and the Macroeconomic Policy Institute (Germany). His research focuses on macroeconomics, growth theory, and post-Keynesian methodologies. Setterfield has held visiting positions globally and has been recognized with awards including the 2025 Keynes Gesellschaft prize and the 2019 EAEPE-Kapp Prize.
Education: MA (1992, Cambridge University), PhD (1993, Dalhousie University).
Research interests include Kaldorian and Kaleckian growth theories, macroeconomic stabilization, agent-based modeling, and the intersection of labor reproduction with macroeconomic frameworks. His work explores policy implications of financial fragility, inflation dynamics, and post-Keynesian frameworks in addressing economic inequality.
Recent publications emphasize post-Keynesian growth theory, the role of household debt in macroeconomic resilience, and the critique of neoliberal growth regimes. His 2023 book Capitalism, Inclusive Growth, and Social Protection analyzes contradictions in capitalist systems. Setterfield teaches advanced macroeconomics, post-Keynesian economics, and research mentorship courses.
