Eckhard Hein

Eckhard Hein is a Professor of Economics, specializing in European Economic Policy, at the Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Recht (HWR) Berlin since 2009. He also served as Co-Director of the Institute for International Political Economy (IPE) from 2015 to 2023. His academic career includes roles as Privatdozent at the University of Oldenburg, Guest Professor at the University of Hamburg and Vienna University of Economics and Business, and Researcher at the Hans Böckler Foundation.

Education: He earned his Diploma in Economics from the University of Bremen (1990), his PhD from the Free University of Berlin (1996), and his Habilitation from the University of Oldenburg (2005).

Research Focus: His work is centered on Post-Keynesian macroeconomics, income distribution and growth, European economic policy, and financialization. He has contributed extensively to theoretical modeling and empirical analysis in these areas, particularly using Kaleckian frameworks.

Publications: Hein has authored or edited over a dozen books since 2014, including Macroeconomics after Kalecki and Keynes: Post-Keynesian Foundations (2023) and Distribution and Growth after Keynes: A Post-Keynesian Guide (2014). His recent articles explore inflation theory, demand regimes, and the macroeconomics of zero growth.

Teaching & Supervision: He leads the Master International Economics program at HWR Berlin and coordinates the Erasmus Mundus EPoG+ program.
