معرفی
Steven Djordjevic is a Professor at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), affiliated with the Australian Institute for Microbiology & Infection and the ithree institute. He specializes in infectious disease research, focusing on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), bacterial pathogenesis, and genomic epidemiology. His work employs genomics and proteomics to study pathogen evolution and vaccine development.
Education: BSc and BSc (Honours) from the University of Queensland (1980–1983), followed by a PhD in microbiology from the Australian National University (1984–1988).
Research emphasizes One Health approaches to track AMR across clinical, agricultural, and environmental reservoirs. He co-founded the Australian Centre for Genomic Epidemiological Microbiology (AusGEM) and leads projects on pathogen genomics for public health, such as the Australian Pathogen Genomics Program (AusPathoGen).
Key achievements include identifying novel bacterial species (e.g., Xanthomonas spp.), characterizing plasmid-mediated AMR, and elucidating molecular mechanisms of bacterial virulence. He serves on editorial boards of Microorganisms and Frontiers in Microbiology and has received awards like the International Mycoplasma Award (2011).
Funded research includes grants from the SAAFE CRC and MRFF Genomics Mission, focusing on wastewater AMR surveillance and antimicrobial resistance in agriculture.
Labs/Teams: Active in the ithree institute and collaborates with NSW Department of Primary Industries and global health initiatives.
