His research focuses on work, labor markets, automation, and public policy, with a particular emphasis on the trucking industry and gig economy. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Indiana University (2010), an M.A. in Anthropology from Syracuse University (2002), and a B.A. in Sociology from New York University (1996).
His key work, The Big Rig (2016), examines how deregulation and independent contracting transformed trucking from a stable blue-collar career into a precarious job. Current projects explore the impact of self-driving trucks and e-commerce on delivery workers, alongside policy interventions to improve industry efficiency and worker conditions. Viscelli collaborates with public and private stakeholders to bridge academic research and practical solutions.
His research interests span inequality, organizational behavior, and the interplay between state policies and labor markets. He is actively involved in policy-relevant studies on employment relations and energy efficiency, reflecting his commitment to applied sociological analysis.
