معرفی
Dr Steve Vernon is a Senior Research Fellow at the Northern Clinical School within the University of Sydney's Faculty of Medicine and Health. His research focuses on coronary artery disease (CAD), particularly in patients without conventional modifiable risk factors (SMuRFs). Vernon leads projects integrating omics technologies, biomarker discovery, and advanced imaging to identify novel mechanisms underlying CAD. He co-developed the BioHEART-CT cohort study to investigate cardiovascular biomarkers using imaging-quantified disease burden. Vernon has secured grants from the National Heart Foundation and Sydney Catalyst, and his work spans clinical epidemiology, precision medicine, and translational cardiology.
His research emphasizes understanding non-traditional risk factors, including immunological profiles (e.g., IgE sensitization) and lipidomic signatures, while addressing sex-based disparities in CAD outcomes. Vernon collaborates with global institutions like the SWEDEHEART registry and DANAMI-3 studies to analyze clinical outcomes in high-risk populations. His recent work highlights the utility of digital health tools, such as health digital twins, for personalized cardiovascular care.
- Key Projects: BioHEART-CT cohort, SMuRFs clinical pathway development
- Technologies: Mass cytometry, metabolomics, machine learning
- Focus Areas: Biomarker validation, precision medicine, atherosclerosis mechanisms
Publications highlight advancements in lipidomic risk scores, mitochondrial superoxide measurement, and immunological profiling of CAD patients. Vernon’s work bridges basic science and clinical practice, aiming to improve risk stratification and therapeutic strategies for CAD.
