Professor Steve Rogers serves as Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Community Connection at Charles Darwin University (CDU), leading research and innovation initiatives since 2020. Previously, he held executive roles including CEO of the Centre for Appropriate Technology (CfAT) and leadership positions in global mining and environmental organizations. With a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Kent, his research focuses on bioremediation, environmental technology, and sustainable development in Northern Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Education: PhD (Microbiology, University of Kent, 1992), MSc (Environmental Technology, Imperial College London, 1988), BSc (Environmental Studies, Sunderland Polytechnic, 1986).
Research Interests: Microbial remediation of contaminated sites, mining exploration technologies, sustainable regional development, and Indigenous community infrastructure solutions. Current projects include food technology innovation, hydrometallurgy solutions, and water security initiatives.
Key Collaborations: Projects involve government agencies, industry partners, and international organizations to address environmental and economic challenges in remote regions. Recent efforts focus on shelf-stable food manufacturing and energy analysis for Northern Australia's food security.
Leadership Roles: Board Director of Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities and Territory Natural Resource Management since 2016.
