Steve Oare serves as Professor of Music Education at Wichita State University's College of Fine Arts, School of Music, where he coordinates the Winds & Percussion Area and directs the WSU Summer Kodály Program.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD in Music Education from Michigan State University
- Master of Music in School Music
- Diploma of Fine Arts in the Kodály Method from the University of Calgary
- Bachelor of Music from the University of Idaho
Dr. Oare's research centers on optimizing practice techniques for beginner instrumentalists and advancing music literacy through Kodály-based methodologies. His scholarly work appears in prominent journals including Update: Applications of Research in Music Education and The Music Educators Journal, emphasizing practical applications for music educators.
With 17 years of pre-academic teaching experience, he previously led K-12 band programs and served as district instrumental music team leader. As a performing woodwind specialist, he has held principal clarinet positions with the Olympia Symphony Orchestra and Northwest Wind Symphony while also performing saxophone with the 22nd Avenue Dixieland Band and church ensembles across multiple states and Canada.
