Steve Nivin is Associate Professor of Economics and Chair of the Economics Department at St. Mary's University. He teaches courses including Introduction to Macroeconomic and Microeconomic Theory, Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory, Econometrics, Mathematical Economics, Money and Banking, Urban Economics, Cost-Benefit Analysis, and Environmental and Natural Resource Economics.

His research focuses on regional economic development, creative economy development, economics of arts and culture, economic inequality, complexity/network economics, public policy analysis, and environmental economics. He is frequently interviewed by media for economic insights and serves as Director of the SABER Research Institute.
Previously, he was Chief Economist and Industry Development Manager for the City of San Antonio, where he established an economic research unit, managed incentive programs, and led technology/creative industry initiatives. He has held positions at USAA and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, focusing on market analysis and public policy development.
He serves on the Board of Directors for multiple local non-profits and contributes to community development through academic and professional leadership.
