Steve Newbrough is an Adjunct Instructor of Guitar at Furman University and Clemson University. As an active solo guitarist and chamber musician, he has performed across the country, on television, and radio, showcasing versatility in diverse styles including classical, gospel, and contemporary music.
His educational background includes:
- Master of Music Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of Minnesota (2008)
- Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts
Mr. Newbrough's research and artistic interests center on classical guitar performance, with a focus on expanding the repertoire through recordings and performances. His work spans traditional classical guitar masterworks, contemporary compositions, and crossover collaborations such as gospel choirs and dance ensembles. This eclectic approach reflects a commitment to exploring the guitar's versatility across multiple genres and settings.
His recent creative output includes the album Transcendent Figures (2023), which features classical guitar masterworks, and Thrum (2012) with the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet. These works demonstrate a trajectory from ensemble-based contemporary projects to solo classical repertoire, highlighting both technical mastery and interpretive depth.
Mr. Newbrough is the Director of the Summit Academy of Music in Asheville, NC, and was a former member of the internationally-acclaimed Minneapolis Guitar Quartet. He also teaches at summer music sessions including The North Carolina School of The Arts and the New England Music Camp.
