Steve Mifflin

Dr. Steve Mifflin is currently the inaugural Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Medicine (UIWSOM), where he leads the development of research infrastructure across biomedical science, clinical research, translational medicine, and population health. He previously served as Chair of the Department of Physiology and Anatomy at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (2009-2019), where he renewed a prestigious NIH Program Project grant (2015) and advanced hypertension and sleep apnea research.

Research Focus: Dr. Mifflin’s work explores central mechanisms linking sleep apnea and hypertension, emphasizing neural and humoral regulation of cardiovascular systems. His career spans postdoctoral training at the University of Heidelberg, Royal Free Hospital (London), and the University of Iowa.
