Steve Hofmann is a Curators Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Missouri's College of Arts and Science. His research focuses on the interface of harmonic analysis, partial differential equations, and geometric measure theory, particularly studying how boundary geometry influences PDE solutions through harmonic analysis techniques.
Education includes a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota (1988) and a B.A. in Mathematics from Washington University, St. Louis (1981). Frequently taught courses range from Calculus for Social and Life Sciences to advanced Topics in Harmonic Analysis.
Publications demonstrate sustained contributions to harmonic analysis and PDEs, with recent work emphasizing uniform rectifiability, non-symmetric elliptic operators, and applications of Tb theorems. The consistent focus on boundary behavior and operator theory reflects deep engagement with foundational mathematical structures.
