Dr Steve Georgakis
Senior Lecturer in Pedagogy and Sports Studies at the University of Sydney, specializing in physical education, school sport, and the history/sociology of sport. Holds degrees: MEd(HigherEd)(Sydney), PhD(Sydney), BEd(Hons)(Sydney). Serves as Director of the Health and Physical Education Program. Associated with editorial boards and international academic committees.
Research focuses on pedagogy for learning, health/physical education development, and historical analysis of NSW public school sport (1881-2014). Current projects include 'Game sense' pedagogy guidelines and a history of Sydney University Sport (1852-2007).
Awarded prestigious fellowships including the Thomas T. Roberts Travelling Fellowship (2006) and Greek Government Education Fellowship (2007). Published over 50 works, including Sociology for Physical Education and Sports Coaching (2023) and History of NSW Public School Sport.
Active in academic leadership roles: President of Human Movement Alumni Chapter (Sydney), Journal Reviewer for 10+ journals, and Publishing House reviewer for major academic publishers.
Supervises research students exploring topics like Chinese PETE teachers' curriculum adoption and Indigenous games in Australian education.
