Stephen Zdepski

Stephen Zdepski is an Associate Professor at the NJ School of Architecture, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), with a distinguished career spanning academia, practice, and research. He is a registered architect (RA) in New Jersey, New York, and Virginia, holds NCARB certification, and is a registered Professional Planner (PP) in New Jersey.

• Education: Master of Architecture II (Post-Professional Degree) from the University of Pennsylvania (1970); Bachelor of Architecture, cum laude, from Syracuse University (1969)

His research focuses on architecture, urban design, and sustainable practices, with an emphasis on ecological systems, passive solar design, and the integration of 3D computer modeling in architectural education. He co-founded the Imaging Laboratory at NJIT in 1983, the first academic architectural studio to prioritize 3D modeling, which secured over $10 million in grants, donations, and software/hardware support.

Stephen Zdepski has been recognized with multiple awards, including Progressive Architecture Design Research Award Citations (1991, 1993), the American Institute of Architects Education Honors Award (1989), and the Gustov Pfost Medal from the New York Society of Architects for design excellence. His work spans international exhibitions and publications, and he designed one of the first passive solar residences in the U.S.

Professor Zdepski's professional practice includes collaborations with BEAMS (Hertfordshire, England) on the Bodley Library addition at the University of Cambridge and consultancy for the Hilton Group's TV series ICON architectural landmarks competition.
