Stephen Charles Smith serves as Senior Lecturer and Program Coordinator for the Interior Design program within the Art and Design Department at the University of New Haven's College of Arts and Sciences. He concurrently operates as principal of Stephen Charles Smith Architects (founded 2017) and Coordinator of the Architecture Summer Institute at the University of Hartford.
His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech (2009) and a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University (2017).
Smith's expertise spans architectural design, sustainable building practices, and digital fabrication methodologies. His professional background encompasses diverse project typologies from high-end residential towers to institutional facilities, emphasizing LEED-certified and socially responsive design principles. Teaching portfolio includes core curriculum in design studios, building systems, and digital tools like Revit and AutoCAD.
Professional leadership includes former Board membership at AIA CT (2010-2011) where he chaired the Emerging Architectural Community Committee, and service on the ACE Mentor Program Board (2010-2015). Current certifications include NCARB, LEED AP, and SEED credentials.
Smith directs the Interior Design BFA program while maintaining active architectural practice, having previously held teaching positions at University of Hartford, Barnard College, and Harlem Academy.
