Dr Stephen Rawles is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the School of Humanities at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on emblem literature, Renaissance studies, book history, and academic libraries. He has published extensively on topics such as the circulation of emblem books, typography in early modern editions, and the history of academic libraries.
His work includes analyses of Chretien Wechel’s editions of Alciato’s emblems, the role of book fairs in cultural exchange, and the digitization of rare emblem texts. Rawles has contributed to collaborative projects like the Bibliography of French Emblem Books and has explored the layout and chronology of historical books.
He has held affiliations with the University of Glasgow Library, as evidenced by his contributions to studies on its historic collections. His research bridges literary history, material culture, and digital humanities, reflecting a deep engagement with early modern European intellectual and cultural practices.
