Stephen Norris is the Walter E. Havighurst Professor of History and Director of the Havighurst Center for East European, Russian & Eurasian Studies at Miami University. He specializes in Russian/Soviet history, nationalism, propaganda, and the intersection of film with historical memory. His research explores Soviet political cartoons, Cold War visual culture, and Ukrainian artistic resistance. Norris has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Miami University Distinguished Scholar Award (2019) and College of Arts and Science Distinguished Educator (2017).

Research Focus: His work examines nationalism, propaganda, and visual culture in the Russian Empire and USSR. Current projects include a biography of Soviet cartoonist Boris Efimov and an NEH-funded study of postcards from the Siege of Leningrad. He also leads Creative Horizons, a collaborative project documenting post-Soviet-era art, particularly Ukrainian resistance art post-2022.
