Professor Stephen Neff holds the Personal Chair of War and Peace at the School of Law, University of Edinburgh, and is affiliated with the Edinburgh Centre for International and Global Law. His scholarly work focuses on the historical development of public international law, with particular emphasis on international economic law, the law of neutrality, and human rights law.
His recent publications include The fruits of wrongdoing in international law (2024), which examines accountability for legal violations, and The law of armed conflict (2021), analyzing historical foundations of humanitarian law. His extensive research spans topics like the evolution of neutrality doctrines, state sovereignty, and the interplay between natural law and constitutional frameworks.
Stephen Neff's work integrates historical and theoretical perspectives, addressing issues such as economic coercion, prisoner rights, and judicial dispute settlement.
