Stephen Morrow

Stephen Morrow is an Associate Professor at Heriot-Watt University, holding dual appointments in the School of Social Sciences and Edinburgh Business School. His research focuses on financial and governance issues in sport, particularly professional football, emphasizing the intersection of sport as a business and social institution. He is Programme Director of the MSc International Sport Management and Co-Investigator (Co-I) on an ESRC-funded project, 'Alcohol FC,' examining alcohol consumption in football cultures.

With over 50 peer-reviewed publications and three authored books on the business of football, Morrow’s work bridges accounting/finance and sport management. He has collaborated with sport governing bodies on knowledge exchange projects and led UEFA Pro-licence management workshops since 2007. His academic background includes roles at Heriot-Watt, University of Stirling, and as a Chartered Accountant (ICAS).

Research interests include sport governance, fan engagement, CSR in football, and hybrid ownership models. Morrow’s media contributions address topics like the European Super League controversy, club ownership, and financial impacts of sports events. He holds a Visiting Professor position at the Johan Cruyff Institute and actively participates in international conferences and policy working groups.
