Sean Hamil

Sean Hamil is a Senior Lecturer in Management at Birkbeck Business School, University of London. He serves as academic programme director for Birkbeck's sport management programmes and is Director of the Birkbeck Sport Business Centre, one of Britain's leading academic centers for the study of sport business since 1999.

His primary research focuses on:

• Governance and ownership structures of sport organisations
• Football club ownership, particularly mutual/co-operative models
• Economic design and regulation of sport competitions
• Business strategy in professional sports industries

Hamil delivers executive education across Europe through multiple high-profile programs. He serves on the academic scientific committee for the Executive Master in Global Sport Governance (MESGO), a program partnered with five European universities and supported by major sport federations including UEFA, FIBA, EHF, and IIHF. He also teaches "The Organisation of World Football" module for UEFA's Certificate in Football Management and contributes to UEFA's Executive Master for International Players (MIP) program.

His research spans football governance, financial regulation, ownership models, and corporate social responsibility in sports. Recent publications examine gambling in sports, financial fair play regulations, fan-owned clubs, and the governance structures of major football organizations including FC Barcelona.
