Stephen M. Twigg

Professor Stephen M. Twigg is the Kellion Professor of Endocrinology and Stan Clark Chair in Diabetes at the University of Sydney, holding academic positions in the Department of Endocrinology and the Central Clinical School. He also leads the Diabetes High Risk Foot Service at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) and chairs national initiatives like the National Association of Diabetes Centres Foot Network. His clinical expertise spans diabetes care, diabetes complications, and translational research in areas like diabetic nephropathy and wound healing. Professor Twigg has authored over 200 scientific publications and holds an h-index of 58.

Research interests focus on diabetes-related complications, including NAFLD/MALFD, diabetic foot ulcers, and exercise interventions. His translational work bridges clinical practice and research, emphasizing evidence-based care. Awards include the 2021 Kellion Award for Outstanding Research and the 2020 RPA Hospital Research Medal.

He has supervised 16 PhD students and contributed to major guidelines like the National Evidence-Based Clinical Care Guidelines for Type 1 Diabetes. His teams collaborate on projects such as the Masters of Metabolic Health program and the Outback Vascular Health Service in remote Aboriginal communities.
