معرفی
Stephen M. Strittmatter, the Vincent Coates Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience at Yale School of Medicine, serves as Chair of the Department of Neuroscience and Director of the Kavli Institute for Neuroscience. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms limiting axonal growth and neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease and spinal cord injury, translating discoveries to clinical trials. A Harvard College AB (1980) and Johns Hopkins MD/PhD (1986) graduate, he completed neurology residency at Massachusetts General Hospital before joining Yale in 1993.
- Alzheimer's disease
- Spinal cord injury
- Progranulin/TMEM106B interactions
- Prion protein signaling
- Synaptic loss mechanisms
- CRISPR-based neuroregeneration
Recent publications highlight advancements in synaptic density imaging (via [18F]SynVesT-1 and SV2A), genetic risk factors (X-chromosome-wide association studies), and neuroregenerative therapies using Nogo receptor decoys. His work bridges molecular discovery with clinical application, particularly in the Strittmatter Laboratory at Yale.
Scientific Honors:
- King Faisal International Prize for Medicine (2021)
- NINDS Outstanding Investigator R35 Award (2016)
- Alzheimer's Association Zenith Fellows Award (2013)
- Senator Jacob Javits Neuroscience Award (2005)
- Elected Member, Association of American Physicians (2024)
Clinically, Dr. Strittmatter directs the Memory Disorders Clinic, specializing in Alzheimer's and related dementias. His research team collaborates with institutions like the Kavli Institute for Neuroscience and WHRY (Women's Health Research at Yale), with funding from NIH, Ameritec Foundation, and the Donaghue Foundation.
