Stephen Lange is a trombonist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and faculty member at the New England Conservatory (NEC), joining in 2011. Previously, he served as Assistant Principal Trombone for the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra (2000-2010) and performed with the San Antonio Symphony, New York Philharmonic, and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
His research interests focus on trombone performance techniques, orchestral repertoire, and chamber music pedagogy. Lange has premiered works like Ruben Seroussi's trombone concerto Playtime and performed Nino Rota's Concerto for Trombone at the International Trombone Festival.
Awards include:
- First Prize, Lewis Van Haney International Trombone Competition
- Carmel Chamber Competition First Place (1999)
- Fishoff Chamber Competition First Place (1999)
He regularly conducts masterclasses at institutions including The Juilliard School and Tanglewood Music Festival.
