Stephen Kampa is an Instructor of English at Flagler College, specializing in poetry and literature. He holds a BA from Carleton College and an MFA in Poetry from Johns Hopkins University. His research focuses on prosody, formal verse structures, intersections between literature and religion, and improvisational music. Kampa has published four poetry collections, including the award-winning Cracks in the Invisible (2010) and his most recent World Too Loud to Hear (2024). His work has appeared in prestigious journals like Yale Review, Raritan, and Poetry Northwest.
He teaches courses ranging from introductory literature to advanced poetry writing. Notable awards include the Theodore Roethke Prize, multiple Pushcart nominations, and inclusion in Best American Poetry (2018, 2024). Kampa’s poetry often explores existential themes, religious imagery, and formal innovation. His office hours are Monday and Wednesday afternoons, and he occasionally performs as a session musician.
