Ben Atkinson is an Assistant Professor of Natural Sciences at Flagler College, based in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His primary research focuses on the conservation ecology of turtles and tortoises, with a particular emphasis on endangered species such as the Central American River Turtle and the Diamond-backed Terrapin. He holds a Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida, along with advanced degrees in Interdisciplinary Ecology and Environmental Education.
Dr. Atkinson teaches a wide range of courses, including Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Evolutionary Biology, and field-based research methods in Belize. He is actively involved in conservation efforts through affiliations with organizations like the Diamondback Terrapin Working Group and the Turtle Survival Alliance.
