Stephen H. Haber is the A.A. and Jeanne Welch Milligan Professor at Stanford University’s School of Humanities and Sciences, with primary appointments as Professor of Political Science and History, and a courtesy appointment in Economics. His research explores the interplay between political institutions, economic development, and technological progress, with a focus on how geography and historical legacies shape modern prosperity. He has authored five books, edited six others, and published in multidisciplinary journals including economics, history, and law. Currently, he is investigating why prosperous democracies cluster geographically, employing geospatial tools and machine learning to analyze indirect geographic impacts on development.
