His research focuses on chromosomal instability in cancer, leveraging Drosophila genetics to identify gene knockouts that selectively target unstable cancer cells. Key areas include the JNK pathway, centrosomes, and metabolic vulnerabilities in cancer therapy. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals for medical innovation.
Stephen has led studies on aneuploidy, oxidative stress, and autophagy, with recent publications in Journal of Molecular Neuroscience, Metabolites, and Biomolecules. He has contributed to high-impact review articles, including the 4th edition of autophagy assay guidelines (2021), cited over 1,300 times.
Supervision: Principal supervisor for 5 students in cancer metabolism and cytokinesis; associate supervisor for 1 project on JNK signaling.
Teaching: Coordinates MMED1008 (Cell Biology) and lectures in biochemistry, genetics, and medical science skills courses.
