معرفی
Briony Forbes is a Professor at Flinders University's College of Medicine and Public Health and a Full Member of the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI). She holds roles as Deputy Director (Research Education Development) at FHMRI and Head of the Proteins in Metabolism and Cancer laboratory. Her expertise lies in protein chemistry, insulin signaling, and IGF systems, focusing on their roles in metabolism, cancer, and diabetes.
Educational Background:
- PhD in Biochemistry, University of Adelaide (1992)
- BSc (Hons) Ophthalmology and Immunology, Flinders University (1984)
- BSc Biochemistry and Microbiology & Immunology, University of Adelaide (1983)
Research Interests: Prof. Forbes investigates insulin-like growth factor (IGF) systems in development and disease, including their roles in cancer, aging, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Her lab develops inhibitors of IGF action for cancer treatment and explores novel insulins for diabetes management. Key topics include insulin receptor isoforms, metabolic control, and links between metabolism and cancer.
Publications Trends: Recent articles focus on insulin analog synthesis (e.g., glycosylated insulins), IGF-II receptor interactions, and structural biology of insulin and its receptors. Her work emphasizes therapeutic applications in diabetes and cancer.
Awards & Recognition:
- 2018 Flinders Teaching Excellence Award
- Multiple travel awards for international conferences (2007–2012)
- Adelaide Research Innovation Industry Awards finalist (2007)
Teaching & Supervision: Coordinates topics like 'Biochemistry of Human Disease' and supervises PhD students in areas such as insulin receptor signaling and IGF structure-function. Chairs the HDR Committee and mentors research staff.
Professional Engagement: Serves as ASBMB National Secretary, Adelaide Protein Group member, and Institutional Biosafety Committee member. Organized public lectures on medical research and contributed to media outreach via ABC Science and press releases.
