Stephen Gaies

Stephen Gaies is a Professor in the Department of Languages and Literatures (formerly English Language and Literature) at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). He joined UNI in 1978 as an Assistant Professor, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1980, and attained the rank of Professor in 1986, maintaining this position through the 2014-2015 academic year.

His research focuses on TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), Linguistics, and English Education, supported by his departmental roles and editorship of TESOL Quarterly (1987-1988). Professional leaves include a 1984 spring semester development leave and a combined sabbatical/development leave in 1990-1991.
