Stephen Fisher is Professor of Political Sociology at the University of Oxford's Department of Sociology and Fellow of Trinity College. As Tutor in Politics at Trinity College, he teaches undergraduate courses including Introduction to the Practice of Politics and Political Sociology (Course 220 for PPE and History & Politics), while supervising graduate research on electoral behavior and social attitudes.
His research examines voting behavior, election forecasting, and public opinion dynamics, with major themes including:
- Climate change attitudes and policy support
- Ethnic minority political integration and electoral discrimination
- Tactical voting patterns and electoral system effects
- Quantitative methodology for poll analysis and forecasting
Recent publications demonstrate strong cross-European focus on climate attitude politicization, mindfulness in political contexts, and longitudinal UK election analysis. Articles frequently combine survey methodology with policy-relevant insights on voting behavior and public opinion.
Notable engagements include directing the UNDP's global Peoples’ Climate Vote survey, designing BBC election exit polls, and providing expert commentary for international media including CNN, Al-Jazeera, and The Guardian. He maintains the ElectionsEtc.com blog for electoral analysis.
