Stephen Dunne is an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at Northumbria University. He holds a PhD in Neurosciences from Durham University (awarded 2014) and previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Durham University (2014-2018). His research focuses on psychological rehabilitation for stroke and brain injury survivors, with particular expertise in loneliness, visual impairment rehabilitation, and quality-of-life factors. He is currently accepting PhD students interested in hidden disabilities and rehabilitation strategies.
Dunne's research explores:
- Psychosocial factors in rehabilitation (motivation, goal-setting, competition)
- Loneliness and social isolation in neurological populations
- Telerehabilitation applications for visual deficits
- Social determinants of brain injury recovery
- Mindfulness interventions for stress reduction
His recent publications demonstrate a focus on stroke survivor experiences, rehabilitation technology, and cross-cultural mental health studies. Article analysis reveals three primary research arcs: 1) psychological adaptation to disability, 2) telerehabilitation efficacy, and 3) social determinants of recovery.
