Dr. Katy Pedlow is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Health Sciences at Ulster University, based at the Derry~Londonderry campus. Her research focuses on neurorehabilitation, stroke recovery, physical activity interventions for neurological conditions, and the application of assistive technologies like voice assistants and virtual reality in healthcare. She leads studies such as the PREP Plus feasibility programme for post-stroke upper limb recovery and explores barriers to community neurorehabilitation access. Her work integrates service user involvement and co-design principles to enhance healthcare pathways.
Dr. Pedlow has received the Distinguished Education Excellence Award (2021) for her contributions. Her research spans qualitative and quantitative methodologies, addressing topics like loneliness in acquired brain injury, sensory integration in autism, and telerehabilitation delivery for stroke patients. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and institutions to advance evidence-based practices in rehabilitation and community health.
Her current initiatives include evaluating active computer gaming systems for older adults' falls prevention and exploring the role of voice-assisted technology in managing speech impairments related to Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Pedlow’s research emphasizes practical solutions for improving quality of life for individuals with disabilities and chronic neurological conditions.
