Dr. Stephen Collins is an Associate Professor (Reader) at the School of Business and Creative Industries, University of Glasgow. He holds a PhD from the University of Glasgow's School of Law (2015), previously lecturing at the University of the Highlands and Islands and teaching Law/Theatre Studies at Glasgow. His research focuses on the intersection of performance, law, and heritage with specializations in intangible cultural heritage protection, modern slavery combat, and Scottish/Ghanaian theatre traditions. He currently serves as Board Member for Ignite Theatre Company (Glasgow) and Act for Change (Ghana).
Research interests emphasize cross-disciplinary analysis of performance history, copyright law, and postcolonial cultural dynamics. Key areas include Ghanaian folklore copyright frameworks, Scottish 21st-century theatre, and legal mechanisms for heritage preservation. His work aligns with UN SDGs related to sustainable communities and cultural equity.
Recent publications (2023-2024) critically examine cultural heritage protection in Scotland, human trafficking narratives in Accra, and Shakespearean reinterpretations in Ghana. Media engagements include BBC Radio Scotland and James Town slavery documentation projects. Collaborative activities involve workshops on intangible heritage (2024) and IP/AI roundtables.
