Gillian Clayton is a Lecturer in Environmental Sciences at the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences. Her research focuses on sustainable development, environmental remediation, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WaSH) technologies. She has held postdoctoral roles at the University of Manchester (2023) and the University of the West of England (2019–2023).
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in developing off-grid water treatment systems and chlorine-based disinfectants. Key awards include the 2016 prize for off-grid drinking water technology and the 2022 prize for biofilm management in water systems.
Research interests span decentralized water systems, biofilm control, and electrochemical solutions for pathogen management. She actively reviews journals like PLOS Water, Microbiology Spectrum, and Environmental Geochemistry and Health.
