Stephen C. Craig is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Florida's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University (1979). His research focuses on political behavior, campaigns and elections, public opinion, and survey research. Notable works include Politicians Behaving Badly: Men, Women, and the Politics of Sexual Harassment (2020) and The Malevolent Leaders: Popular Discontent in America (1993, reprinted 2019). His recent work examines voter behavior, political trust, and the impact of fake news on elections. Craig teaches courses on political behavior and politics in fiction/film. His research has been published in leading journals such as the American Political Science Review and Political Behavior.
His experimental studies explore partisan reactions to sexual harassment allegations, issue ownership in campaigns, and the effects of negative political advertising. Craig collaborates frequently with Paulina Cossette and Michael D. Martinez on topics like ambivalence in public opinion and electoral decision-making. His current projects include analyzing the intersection of fake news, pandemic responses, and the 2020 U.S. election.
