Stephen Bamford is a Lecturer and Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society at George Mason University. He retired from a 26-year law enforcement career in 2013 as Assistant Chief of Police for the City of Manassas, Virginia Police Department, specializing in criminal investigations, SWAT, and crisis negotiations. He holds a BS from George Mason University, an MS from Virginia Commonwealth University, and attended the FBI National Academy.

His research interests focus on law enforcement practices, criminal justice ethics, policing strategies, and threat assessment. He currently runs a threat assessment and mitigation program for federal clients in Washington, DC.
Professor Bamford teaches courses including CRIM 100 - Experiencing the Criminal Justice System, CRIM 306 - Ethics for Criminal Justice Practitioners, and CRIM 401 - Policing in America, among others related to criminal investigations and technology in policing.
