Dr. Stephann Makri is a Senior Lecturer in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) at City, University of London, within the Department of Computer Science, College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences. His research lies at the intersection of HCI and Information Science, focusing on human information interaction—how people find, interpret, and use information in digital environments such as websites, search engines, and social media. He aims to design systems that empower users, preserve autonomy, and support serendipity and creativity.
His research interests include:

His recent publications explore view change, digital comics, AI in journalism, and accessibility. These works reveal consistent themes in cognitive resilience, information encountering, and ethical design. His research is funded by AHRC, Google, EPSRC, and JISC, often in collaboration with the British Library, The National Archives, and Microsoft Research UK.
