Dr. Stephanie Wakefield is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Human Ecology Program at Life University (Life U), where she also serves as Research Chair for the College of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies. She previously taught at Queens College and The New School in New York City, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Florida International University under the Urban Studies Foundation.

Her research focuses on climate change resilience, Anthropocene urbanism, and nature-based infrastructure, particularly in coastal cities like New York and Miami. She has spearheaded Life U’s involvement in the Georgia Climate Project, emphasizing collaboration on statewide climate solutions.
Recent publications examine themes such as:
- Urban experimentation post-disasters
- Crypto-urban governance in the Anthropocene
- Destituent power and resilience theory
Dr. Wakefield is dedicated to fostering innovative teaching methods, including outdoor and active learning, and has led fieldwork in creeks and trails with students.
