Stephanie Dietz serves as a Researcher in the Archaeometric Laboratory within the Department of Art History – Restoration at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart since 2020, specializing in scientific methods for art conservation and restoration.
Her educational background includes a 2007 Diploma in Conservation and Restoration of Paintings and Painted Sculptures from the same institution, followed by doctoral studies (2011–2015) under Prof. Dr. Christoph Krekel in Art History. She holds a doctorate for her dissertation “Painting with Glass – Studies on the Painting Technique of Hans Holbein the Elder,” which examines historical painting methodologies through material analysis.
Dr. Dietz’s research integrates archaeometry and art history to decode technical processes of Old Masters, with emphasis on pigment composition, glass-based media, and preservation science. Her work bridges empirical laboratory analysis with art historical scholarship to advance conservation practices for cultural heritage.
She operates within the Archaeometric Laboratory, applying scientific instrumentation to authenticate, analyze, and conserve paintings and painted sculptures, focusing on Renaissance-era techniques and material degradation.
