Stephanie DeBoer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cinema and Media Arts and Studies at The Media School, Indiana University Bloomington. She holds cross-disciplinary appointments in the Department of International Studies (School of Global and International Studies), Department of Geography, East Asian Languages and Cultures, and Cultural Studies Program.
Her research examines the co-constitution of place, space, and location within transnational, regional, and urban screen media cultures. Key interests include:

Publications reveal a sustained focus on Asian screen media infrastructures, particularly urban China and Japan, with recurring themes of film co-production, spatial politics, and transnational representation across film, television, and new media contexts.

Her collaborative projects include co-convening the Shanghai-based Screens Collective and the Screen Ecology Project at Indiana University, both investigating urban screens as sites for public dialogue. She co-organized the 2018 Singapore symposium on urban screens and curated the 2017 China Remixed Video Art Exhibition in Hong Kong, supported by Tongji University's Making Lab.
